Here Dr. Ludwig comments on sleep apnea, one of the medical problems that can result from overweight.

"There are a number of respiratory and pulmonary problems that can result from obesity, including sleep apnea, in which the windpipe closes down when you sleep, causing people to have to wake up repeatedly through the night, gasping for air. It can be a dangerous medical problem which places stress on the heart and also causes severe sleepiness during the daytime."
