QUESTION: Is there anything you want to say about how you decided how much to tell people about your Crohns disease and who you decided to tell?
KATE: It's still a process for me. It definitely still is a process for me. I think it's easier now when someone is diagnosed, because the information is right there. But because of the background of where I came from and not being diagnosed right away, it's still a process just to try to get over this and realize, "You know, it's okay to talk about this." When people can't see the disease- it's not like cancer, where your hair falls out and you can identify that people have a disease. When it comes to chronic illnesses, when people can't see it, sometimes they don't believe it or want to believe it. So when you're working full-time and you're able to keep up with the pace of a job or keep up with the pace of your social life, people just think you're doing fine. But the fact is you might not be, and they might not be able to identify that.
