KATE: The treatment was a bit challenging because it was medications I'd never taken before, and it was a lot of medications at one time. And the side effects of the medications were a little bit challenging at first. Prednisone and sulfasalazine seem to be the starts with this, and prednisone- I had a lot of reactions to the prednisone- your face gets big, and nausea and vomiting with the sulfasalazine. So there were a lot of different symptoms that I experienced that were outside of what I thought I'd experience. I thought things were going to get better, and it was just a bit challenging getting used to. But they do work- the medications do work, as long as you take them.
