My Diabetes

I don't hide my diabetes

I don’t generally hide my diabetes from people who already know me.  I have, when meeting someone new, not directly mentioned it.  I think I do this because I want others to know me because of who I am, not because of what I have.

I've gotten used to it

It was kind of scary at first because I was nine years old when I was diagnosed, so I’ve had it for about five, almost six years. After a while, I kind of got used to it. It’s just been a pain in the butt.

Diabetes has always been just part of being me

I don’t think my life has changed because of the diabetes, but I do think that my life has, in a manner of speaking, grown up around it. Diabetes has been a part of my life almost as long as I can remember and living with it has always been just part of being me. I think that at this point in my life I am a much healthier person because of it. I am very conscious of both what I eat and what I do.
