Don’t be Afraid of Hospitalization

Mom: I want parents not to be as afraid of the hospitalization process as you will be the first time. It’s so scary the first time, I remember I went back out to my car and I must have had a primal scram that lasted twenty minutes. I was so upset and scared and worried, but I realize now that the hospital experience was necessary for me too because I finally got a break from him and from his sickness. My only advice would be that it will help your child. You child will come out better than he or she was when they went in. So, don’t be afraid. The staff a Children’s Hospital Boston, I cannot tell you how great they are. I feel like they literally, literally saved Cody’s life.

Cody: The people in Children’s Hospital were really nice to me, it’s a really great hospital.

Mom: And they were so, so generous with their time and with me and they let me on the unit whenever I wanted, basically within reason. There were family meetings and I loved the homework that they gave Cody, it was really specific to him. I think it was the openness of the staff and their competence that made all the difference in the world.
