The Experience Journal was created under
the direction of Drs. David Ray DeMaso and Joseph Gonzalez-Heydrich, who are child and adolescent psychiatrists
in the Department
of Psychiatry at Childrens Hospital Boston and Harvard
Medical School. Together with Dr.
Joseph E. Nyre, a child and adolescent psychologist at Childrens
Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School, they have created
the Depression Experience Journal for families facing childhood
and adolescent depression. Content for the Depression Experience
Journal was collected by Emily Baum, the Project Coordinator.
The Depression Experience Journal was
developed and implemented with support from the Sidney A. Swensrud
Foundation. Past support for the Experience Journal has come from
the Fleet National Bank, Trustee of the Deborah Munroe Noonan
Memorial Fund, Mitsubishi
Electric Research Laboratory Inc., Cambridge, and Tellalbs
Foundation.
We thank Dr.
William Beardslee, Academic Chairman at Children's Hospital Boston and the Gardner A. Monks Professor of Psychiatry
at Harvard Medical School, for allowing excerpts from his book,
When a Parent is Depressed: When a Parent Is Depressed, Protecting
the Children and Strengthening the Family (published by Little,
Brown and Company, 2002) to appear on this web site. We also thank
the Harvard Graduate School of Education for contributing video
clips from Dr. Beardslees October 20, 2002 Askwith Education
Forum presentation.
The Depression Experience Journal would
not have been possible without the enthusiasm and dedication of
Rachel Amgott, Elizabeth
Colton, Lara
Kay, Erin Kelley, and Dayna Miller. The video clips of clinicians
that appear throughout the web site. were created with the help
of Ariel Botta, Marcus
Cherry, Eugene
DAngelo, Stuart
Goldman, Nadja
Reilly, and Caroline Watts. We are also indebted to Nancy
Anthony, Rick Bourne, Beth Donegan, Susan Hecht, Kelli Nyre, Christine
Rich, and Elizabeth
Wharff as well as all of the families who contributed to the
Depression Experience Journal.
The video clips were produced and/or
edited by Marcella Hoekstra. This web site was designed by Meghan
