PART 11: TIME TABLE: HEART FAILURE/TRANSPLANT

Time Table: Heart Failure/Transplant

Approx. Time

1. Initial Consultation

  • Meeting the Transplant Team
1-3 Days

2. Heart Failure Evaluation and Testing

  • Testing ordered and completed
  • Pre-Transplant Education

7-10 Days

3. Transplantation Listing

1-3 Days

4. Wait Time

Average 2 – 3 months; can be as long as 1 year

5. Transplantation

4 – 6 hours in the Operating Room

6. Hospitalization after Transplant

2 – 6 weeks

7. Post Discharge Follow Up – Weeks 1 - 4 2 appointments per week

8. Post Transplant Follow Up – Weeks 5 - 8

***Note if patient lives more than a 2 hour drive from the hospital, the family will need to stay locally for 6-8 weeks after discharge***

1 appointment per week
9. Post Transplant Follow Up – Weeks 9 - 12 1 appointment every other week

10. Post Transplant Follow Up – Months 3 - 6

Monthly Clinic Appointments

11. Post Transplant Follow Up – Months 6 - 12 Clinic Appointments every 2 – 3 months
12. Post transplant Follow Up – 1 Year + Clinic every 3 months; cardiac catheterizations with biopsies every six months; annual “full” cardiac catheterization
