Interviewer: What are some of the things your family has done to help Billy and Verdo feel better about having asthma?
Mother: I let them know and with other kids that it's OK to have asthma, and just because you have asthma doesn't mean you're not cool. What's not cool is having asthma and not trying to keep taking your meds. And then we do knowledgeable things, like they know what their asthma triggers are, which is very important. So my boys are pretty cool now because they tell other kids. A kid will say "Well, I have asthma," and they'll say "Well, what are your triggers?" and they'll say, "Triggers, what's that?" So they've gotten knowledgeable of this disease. It's not really holding them back anymore. They know that if they take their medications that they can actually exercise, play sports, and they love swimming-they know swimming is good for asthma. So it's OK now. They're pretty good with it right now.
