INTERVIEWER: What was your reaction to learning Michaela had been diagnosed with having ADHD?

MOM: Well, I was pretty relieved. I thought there was something, and knowing that there was something specific that I could jump into reading everything about it and learning all about it and helping her in ways with behavior modification, things that I was doing that maybe upset her behavior or added to her behavior, avoiding situations that would maybe be too difficult for her such as family gatherings, holidays—there was just so much noise, so many people—things like that she needed to have in smaller doses than, say, my other child or my nieces and nephews. So I just made sure we timed things a little bit more appropriately for what she could handle and still be comfortable with and the rest of the family could be comfortable with.
